Stage costumes project
Date
October 2024
In this course, each student was asked to choose a play and design costumes for it. I chose Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw. I began by researching the original theme of the play and created a collection that aligns with the historical period in which the play is set. I then developed a new concept, diving deeper into the mythological origins of the play's title, which comes from the Greek legend of a sculptor who falls in love with a statue he created and tries to breathe life into it, shaping the woman according to his vision. For this project, I experimented with unconventional materials, such as creating a plaster corset to function as a sculpture. I aimed to represent moments where the statue "comes to life" and moments of freedom. Throughout the course, I learned about theatre, lighting, and the magical world of stage costumes.
